Bio:

Daniel Shanken is an artist whose practice centers on the interplays between technology and cognition, tracing their ongoing effects on the environment, consciousness, and culture through installations, video, sculpture, sound, and media. His recent work explores the layered influence of intelligent systems within broader networks of memory, perception, and control. Shanken has exhibited internationally at venues including ICA London, Art Basel Hong Kong, Whitechapel Gallery, CCA Glasgow, Nottingham Contemporary, CFCCA Manchester, Fondazione Pastificio Cerere Rome, and Kiasma Helsinki.

 

Daniel completed his BFA in Fine Art Media at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 2006, MFA in Art Practice at Goldsmiths University of London in 2012, and PhD in contemporary art practice from Kingston University in London in 2023, culminating in a solo exhibition at Stanley Picker Gallery. Before starting as an Assistant Professor at AVA (HKBU) in 2019, he worked as an Art Practice Tutor at Goldsmiths University London, and a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art London. He is currently a UmArts WASP-HS Art and AI Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UmArts and the Umeå School of Architecture.
